Dick Hollywood’s 26 Favorite Flicks of 2016: Part Deux

‘Nocturnal Animals’

Part Deux of My Favorite Flicks of 2016. I just can’t stop adding Films. More Flims! More Movies! More Flicks!

The Lobster

Fans of the Absurd rejoice. Greek Filmmaker, Yorgos Lanthimos, Writer/Director of the Oscar Nominated Film ‘Dogtooth’, is at it again. David (Colin Ferrel) has 45 days to find a love match at a designated Hotel for Singles, or he will be turned into an animal of his choosing. ‘The Lobster is fiercely original and absurdly funny. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but a treat for those with an offbeat sense of humor it is unique cinematic experience.

Love and Friendship

Whit Stillman meets Jane Austen is a match made in Heaven. As a modern Writer/Director of Comedy of Manners, he is the perfect choice to adapt an early lesser known short epistolary novel from Jane Austen. It’s witty and lot’s of fun with a stand out performance from the lead, Kate Beckinsale.

Manchester By The Sea

Kenneth Lonergan’s third Film as Writer/Director is a strong emotional Family Drama with more realistic humor and pathos that I had expected. Casey Affleck’s Performance is worth the price of admission.

Midnight Special

The little Science Fiction/Drama Flick that could. Writer/Director Jeff Nichols continues on a hot streak of Good Film after Film. “A father and son go on the run, pursued by the government and a cult drawn to the child’s special powers.” – IMDB

A Film chronicling the life of Chiron aka ‘Little’ split into three separate timelines of his life. Emotionally poetic with outstanding performances from an ensemble of Actors and Actresses.

Nocturnal Animals

A Film within a Film. Two stories for the price of one. A story of lost love and revenge through determination and accomplishment. Jake Gyllenhaal excels in duo roles. One of the Writer and as one of his creations. Nuff said, I can’t say no more.

Jim Jarmusch finds beauty and poetry through his protagonist Paterson, who drives a bus and writes poetry about the minutia found in his day to day ordinary life. Quirky and poignant with great understated from Adam Driver as Paterson.

Sing Street

John Carney, Writer-Director of ‘Once’ and ‘Begin Again’ has created such a fun and nostalgic musical about growing up in Ireland in the ’80’s. Just a joy to watch.

10 Cloverfield Lane

‘After getting in a car accident, a woman is held in a shelter with two men, who claim the outside world is affected by a widespread chemical attack.” – IMDB This is a fun Horror Flick with a Creepy good turn from John Goodman.

Korean Horror Double Feature: Train to Busan and The Wailing

‘Train to Busan’ is the Best Zombie on a Train Flick that I have ever seen. No really, it is a Flick extremely well done Zombie Flick that has come out of the mass glut of Zombie Flick-Mania. And believe me, I have seen a ton of Zombie Flicks.

Looking for a Creepy, Weird, Highly Atmospheric Supernatural Mystery Police Procedural with Comedic Elements that Korean Flicks are know for? Well look no further, because it can all be found in this Horror Fun-Filled Flick.

The Witch

It Has Creepy Kids, Creepy Twins, Creepy Atmoshere and a Toatally Fuckin’ Creepy-Ass Goat. What more do you Want???

A Train Wreck of a Doc, highlight Anthony Weiner’s Mayoral Election run 2013 after his infamous Sexting scandal. It’s really good folks, really really good.

Todd Solondz most accessible film to date will still offend some as we follow the life of Doody the Wiener-Dog from owner to owner, each with their own stories to be told. Fans of Todd Solondz should not be disappointed.
