Well, why stop with thirteen, when I can give ya another thirteen with a 2 for the price of 1 sale going on now. Why the fuck not? Of course these are all pulled form the movies that I was able to see before I committed them to this post. There are many flicks that I have yet to see, and I reserve the right to add more to the list if need be. So go ahead and check out my Next 13 Favorite Flicks of 2014 and maybe, just maybe, you will find something that you may yourself enjoy watching.
A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT – A Female Iranian/American Director makes a Film in Farsi, filmed in a California desert to look like a small town in Iran, about a lonely Vampire skateboarding around town look for her next victim. A nice little tale of love and loneliness and it looks spectacular in B&W.
CALVARY – A Heavy Duty Dark Comedy that occasionally veers into farce about a Priest who is threatened in the Confessional, “”I’m going to Kill you Father. I’m going to gill you because you are innocent.”. He wants the Priest to meet him the following Sunday, on the beach, where he will murder him. This Flick has Dick Hollywood written all over it!
EDGE OF TOMORROW – Groundhog Day meets alien invasion. Super Fun Flick and we get the added Bonus of seeing Tom Cruise die over and over, again and again…
FRANK – Micheal Fassbender plays Frank. A guy who is the lead singer of an experimental band, with an unpronounceable name, while wearing a paper mache head 24/7. Great Quirky Morose Fun will be had by all that enter Frank’s World.
THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL – Wes Anderson doing what he does best. He Makes Another Fine Wes Anderson Flick…
IDA – Beautiful Stark Black and White Polish film about a Nun in training who finds out she is Jewish travels to meet her Aunt.
FORCE MAJEURE – A Marriage is tested while on a family ski vacation in this uncomfortably Dark Comedy/Drama from Sweden.
INHERENT VICE – Once you get into the flow of this quirky comedy, its kind of like Robert Altman’s “The Long Good Friday”, meets Hunter S Thompson’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Good Stuff…
JODOROWSKY’S DUNE – The Movie that was never made by the Original Production Team is a fun and lively story about Art, Passion, Filmmaking and Ambition.
“I wanted to make a film that would give the people who took LSD at that time the hallucinations that you get with that drug, but without the hallucinations. I did not want LSD to be taken; I wanted to fabricate the drug’s effects. This film was going to change the public’s perceptions.” – Alejandro Jodorowsky
STARRED UP – Brutally realistic English Prison Drama with a powerful performance from Jack O’Connell
UNDER THE SKIN – Esoteric Sci-Fi Flick that has Scarlett Johansen cruising the streets of Glasgow in search of men for nefarious reasons. A thick black gooey head trip.
FRIDAY NIGHT DOUBLE FEATURE (I Am a Very Punny Guy) – Double Your Pleasure and Double Your Fun with these two similarly themed movies. While Both films deal with Doppelgangers, The Double a Comedy, while Enemy is more of a Surrealistic Mind Fuck.
