Spent more time in the Gas Lamp District then at the Con…
Day 3 of Comic Con 2010 was just as uneventful as the first two days. Arrived in the morning once again by riding the Trolley in from Chula Vista. Got a little reading in along the way and once off the Trolley, I walked away from the Convention Center towards the Gas Lamp District. I was in desperate need of my morning cup of joe. Found a nice little cafe where I could sit outside and read, people watch and wake up.
Once back inside the Con, I made my way to a panel on Will Eisner and how he was a dreamer and savvy business man rolled into one hell of a creative guy. Recollections from friends and colleagues reminiscing about the good old days. Not too bad, but kind of dry a little dry and when the panel was over I was ready to move on to the next one.
I had texted a friend of mine earlier to see if he wanted to meet up at a panel with a bunch of Genre TV Writers from some pretty well known shows. Did not hear back from him, but he showed up while I was getting in line. Got in as the room filled to capacity, and quite happy to say that I was not stabbed in the eye with a pen.
The talk itself was fun and informative with the panel relating stories of how the collaborative process works and does not work. Best Panel of the Comic Con by far!
Hungry like a wolf, I waded into the sea of freaks and geeks on the streets of San Diego in search of some grub. Located a pub and sidled up to an open bar stool in this extremely packed establishment. Turkey burger and fries washed down with two pints of Sam Adams and it is time to head back to meet a friend, who was there with his brother signing a couple of Graphic Novels that they wrote together. I was almost there when I decided to sustain my buzz some more with another Happy Hour Beverage. Turns out the Happy Hour Beer only comes in a Double mug size, so being the trooper that I am, I sit myself down at the bar in order to keep my buzz alive. I strike up a conversation with a cute Betty Page looking young lady who was doing the same thing. Geeks do like to drink too, and we talk about our common love of Comic Books and Genre Flicks.
Finally back into the convention and I am finding myself a little lost while trying to locate my friend so I can get a book signed by him. Well have no fear, I have my handy dandy locater with me and he texts me back their location. Chat with them for a bit. Purchase one of their books. The distributer forgot to bring the other one, so they are out of luck. They Sign it and give me a Free T Shirt. Yeah Baby! Tired as all hell, I call my friend Ruben and he picks me up and takes me away from the madness. I make an executive decision to go home on Sunday and not to attend the 4th day of this madness.
Goodbye Comic Con till next year???
